Take a cutting that is about as thick as a pencil and at least one foot long. It needs to be long enough for a few inches to be underground (for stability), while a couple of nodes should still be showing above ground.
If you don’t wish to wait until summer, bring your pussy willow cuttings inside and root them in water; then transplant outside when danger of frost is past.
These trees have invasive roots. Consequently, plant your cuttings far away from septic tank fields, sewer lines or water lines.

It is normal for this plant to turn green. While the soft gray part is the best known part of the Pussy Willow… it is just an early stage for the plant.

Yes, that is the spent “flower”. If you wait long enough roots should also appear. You can then plant it in a moist spot in your yard and have a pussy willow tree. Good luck!

A pussy willow is a deciduous plant. The soft furry things are the first parts to come out in the spring. They fade away, and eventually the plant grows leaves like all deciduous plants.
The green sprouty stuff is just the next phase. Sounds like it’s time to get something new in the vase!
